Talent Development Program for Young People with Disabilities
The Joint Council organized the “Talent Development Program for Young People with Disabilities” during the period from August 2024 to March 2025 with an aim to help young people with disabilities equip themselves as well as encourage them to participate in public and social affairs and express opinions on disability-related issues and policies.
The training program consists of two parts: The first part comprises 8 units that include training sessions and visits to rehabilitation agencies in Hong Kong. This aims to enhance the awareness of young people with disabilities on relevant issues and enhance their self-confidence. They are expected to actively participate in social affairs in the future to reflect the needs of people with disabilities. The second part is the study visit to services for people with disabilities in the Greater Bay Area, which aims to enhance the understanding of young people with disabilities on the service operation of rehabilitation agencies and the participation of service users in the Greater Bay Area.The content of the training sessions of “Talent Development Program for Young Persons with Disabilities” includes the legislation and policies related to disabilities; the government departments, advisory committees and non-governmental organizations related to disabilities; the importance and significance of user participation; the origin of rehabilitation services; issues of concern for people with disabilities; the operation of self-help groups; meeting skills, etc.
